The Kitchen [Community] does not act as a fundraising agent obtaining funding for specific Learning Gardens. We are not a direct grant-making foundation; however, because of the generosity of our funding partners, we are frequently able to provide Learning Gardens to eligible applicants.
The Kitchen [Community] offers two ways to obtain a Learning Garden based on your school’s FRL (Free and Reduced Lunch) or low-income ratio.
Learning Garden Recipients
- Public schools with a minimum 60 percent FRL or Low-Income Ratio
The Kitchen [Community] frequently provides Learning Gardens to public schools with a minimum of a 60 percent FRL (Free and Reduced Lunch) or low-income rating. To ensure that your school receives the maximum benefit from your Learning Garden, we require that you form a Garden Team that will lead the garden planning, installation, and maintenance processes. This team will be responsible for integrating the garden into the school environment and overseeing the addition of art projects and activities in the garden. The most successful applications will have input from a well-rounded Garden Team.

Learning Garden Discount
- Public schools with FRL (low-income ratio) below 60 percent.
- Private schools.
- Youth/community centers.
We offer assistance in the way of product and service discounts based on the FRL or low-income ratio of the population served by your organization (up to 50 percent). For example, if your organization serves a population that has a 42 percent FRL, then you can obtain a 42 percent discount off of our product and services. If you organization has a 55 percent FRL, then you can obtain a 50 percent discount off of our product.
